Police Investigating Triple Shooting in Baltimore

Posted:

BALTIMORE (AP)- Police are investigating after three men were killed in a shooting in Baltimore.

Police say it happened around 10:40 p.m. Thursday. Police say they were patrolling the area of York Road and Willow Avenue when they heard gunshots. Police then found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds in the intersection of Willow and Alhambra avenues.

One of the men died at the scene. Two other victims died after being taken to area hospitals.

Police recovered handguns from two of the victims. Police have not released a motive for the shooting or identified the victims.

Earlier this month, Baltimore recorded its 200th homicide of the year. Killings began to spike dramatically in May, with 42 in a single month. There was a brief dip in June, with 29, then another rise in July, when the city saw 45 homicides, making the month Baltimore's bloodiest since 1972. The uptick comes after rioting in the spring over the death of Freddie Gray, a black man critically injured in police custody.

The rise has prompted interim Police Commissioner Kevin Davis to form a task force with 10 federal agents imbedded with homicide detectives.
