SALISBURY, Md.- It is the first day of the Wicomico County Fair, which opens to the public at 2 p.m. Friday.

The fair will soon be in full swing, drawing people from all over Delmarva like it has for 79 years.

Zack Evans, the chairperson for the fair, said there is a lot to look forward to this weekend at Winterplace Park, where the three-day event will be held.

"We've got your tractor pull, and of course all the livestock," Evans said.

Evans is also vice president of the Wicomico Farm and Home Show. He said the organization teamed up with the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce to expand the event that promotes agriculture and the poultry industry.

"When people come out, they want to see the animals, they want to see produce, they want to see some of the big equipment that they get stuck behind the road," Evans said.

The fair will feature educational poultry exhibits, food, and live entertainment.

Friday night's entertainment will kick off with Barrens Creek performing at 5 p.m., followed by Red Sammy at 7.

The Salisbury Lions Club has also pulled out its 5-foot fry pan to cook up its famous chicken. They expect to fry thousands of pieces by the end of the day.

The fry pan is an element of tradition that is now gone, since the Delmarva Chicken Festival ended its run last year. The organization is proud to bring a little bit of the feeling back.

The Wicomico County Fair ends Sunday, August 16.

Parking and admission is free.
