Delaware AG Pushes Price Cut for Heroin Antidote

Posted:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP)- Delaware officials say 10 lives have been saved this year since an antidote to heroin overdoses was put in the pockets of officers in the Ocean View, Middletown and New Castle County police departments.

Each two-person kit of the nasal form of naloxone costs $110, a price that officials say could prevent more agencies from equipping officers.

Delaware Attorney General Matt Denn says he is trying to strike a deal with California manufacturer Amphastar to give government agencies and volunteer fire companies in Delaware rebates for the Narcan medication.

After being criticized for raising Narcan's price by about 50 percent last year, the manufacturer gave discounts to Ohio and New York agencies, and has publicly said it will consider requests from other states.
