Man Sentenced to 3 Years for Straw Purchases of Handguns

Posted:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A Newark man has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for making what prosecutors say were straw purchases of five semi-automatic pistols for his heroin suppliers.

Twenty-five-year-old Michael Nolting, who pleaded guilty to making false statements in the acquisition of a firearm, was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Wilmington.

According to court documents, in July 2014, Nolting, then a heroin user, purchased a total of five semi-automatic pistols for his several heroin suppliers. Prosecutors say Nolting falsely denied that he was a drug user, and fraudulently claiming that he was the real purchaser.
