Posted:

ASSATEAGUE ISLAND, Va.- The NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center, partnering with the Delmarva Space Sciences Foundation, will hold the final chapter of it's "Astronomy and Night Sky Summer Series" Thursday night.

The event begins with an Astronomy 101 presentation at the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge Herbert H. Bateman Education Center Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Participants may then use telescopes and binoculars at the north end of the beach parking lot #1 at 8:45 p.m. to observe the night sky.

The free event is open to the public. The series is a collaboration between NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center, Delmarva Space Sciences Foundation, Assateague Island National Seashore and Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.

NASA Wallops Flight Facility officials said the auditorium presentations Thursday night will happen regardless of weather. However, they said the telescope viewing is subject to cancellation due to inclement weather.
