SALISBURY, Md. – A company says it is working to build a medical marijuana growing facility in Wicomico County. BioCannatix says it is in the process of applying for a grower’s license and hopes it is one of the fifteen entities approved by the state of Maryland.
The potential location of the facility is near Hebron, at the corner of Memory Gardens Lane and Log Cabin Road. BioCannatix says, should the state select them, the cost of building the medical marijuana facility would be between $5 and $8 million.
Wicomico County Executive, Bob Culver, says he is neither for nor against the potential facility. Culver tells WBOC that the state decided to move forward with grow operations and that is out of the county’s hands. He says he knows of at least 6 groups vying for the license in Wicomico County alone.
?BioCannatix says, if given the green light to move forward, the company would immediately add 40-50 jobs. According to the company, a state commission formed to approve medical marijuana licenses will choose fifteen licensees by January 2016. Each group then has until July 2017 to complete construction.
