SALISBURY, Md.- Authorities say a two-vehicle accident that happened Saturday east of Salisbury sent four people to the hospital, including a toddler.

The crash happened just before 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Johnson and Airport roads. According to the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, a car operated by 39-year-old Hilda C. Vidal, of Salisbury, failed to stop for a stop sign on Johnson Road and collided with another car traveling on Airport Road, which had the right of way.

Between the two vehicles, a total of four people were transported by ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Three of those were later transported to other facilities in Baltimore, the Sheriff's Office said. One of the victims transported to Baltimore was s 2-and-a-half year-old toddler in Vidal's car.

Salisbury Assistant Fire Chief Brian Records told WBOC that emergency personnel did not have to extricate anyone from the vehicles, which he says is unusual for that sort of crash. Records said one person was thrown from the vehicle during the crash, one person was helped out of the car by one of the other passengers, and the remaining occupants were able to get out on their own.

The collision is still being investigated by the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Unit and charges are pending, according to investigators.
