Elderly Man Robbed in Dover Area Home

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del.- Delaware State Police are searching for a suspect they say robbed an elderly man in his Dover area home in the middle of the afternoon.

Troopers said the suspect, described by the victim as a white male, between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-tall, and between the ages of 23 and 25, pulled into the victim's driveway on Silver Leaf Lane just east of Dover around 1 p.m. Monday. Police said the suspect asked the 84-year-old man who lived there if he could use his telephone. Police said the man let the suspect into his garage to use the phone. When the elderly man bent over to pick up the phone, that's when police said the younger man reached into the victim's pocket and took his wallet, then took off.

The elderly man was not injured in the incident.

Police said the suspect was last seen wearing a dark blue T-shirt and light colored pants. Police say they are also looking for a burnt orange, or possible reddish orange, SUV that they say the suspect drove off in. Police say the SUV may have had Maryland tags.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Tfc. J. Buzzuro at (302) 697-4454, ext. 611.  Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, via www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com, or by sending an anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword "DSP."
