Georgetown Looking to Renovate Town Hall

Posted:

GEORGETOWN, Del. - The town of Georgetown told WBOC that their facility is in "bad shape."

"There are certainly issues with mold," said Town Manager Gene Dvornick. "Structural issues in the current 39 The Circle. As well as some asbestos issues we have."

To address the problem, the town is looking to borrow approximately $1.9 million to go towards major renovations. The town is holding a public hearing on the borrowing measure Wednesday night at Town Hall at 6:30.

The structure at 39 The Circle, has been erected since 1918. Dvornick didn't have an exact date on when 37 The Circle was first constructed, but said it was from the same time-period.

"The plan is to do the improvements to 37 The Circle first," Dvornick said. "And then come back and do 39 The Circle and reconstruct this as an effective town hall meeting space. As well as meeting rooms and offices for the mayor and council."

The referendum is scheduled for Oct. 12 in Georgetown.

"Certainly anyone visiting the building can see it's in need of some repairs," Dvornick said. "And probably needed it for several years."
