Update: One Injured in Head-On Collision with USPS Truck

PARSONSBURG, Md. - Maryland State Police say a head-on collision between a mail truck and a car Thursday morning in Parsonsburg, sent one person to the hospital and knocked out power in the area.

Maryland State Police say troopers responded to the area of Old Ocean City Road and Forest Grove Road just before 10:15 a.m. Thursday for a two-vehicle accident with injuries. Troopers say a 1996 Mercedes Benz, driven by 28-year-old Matthew Taylor, of Hebron, Md., was traveling eastbound on Old Ocean City Road while a United State Postal Service mail delivery vehicle was stopped at a set of mailboxes on the westbound side of Old Ocean City Road. Police say Taylor, for an unknown reason, crossed the dotted center line and continued across the opposite lane, hitting the mail truck head on. Police say due to the collision, a telephone line supporting live electric wires was snapped in half. The pole and wires landed on top of the two vehicles, according to police. 

Taylor refused medical treatment, but police say the postal worker, identified as 58-year-old Isabel Hurley, of Salisbury, was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Electric in the surrounding area was disabled as a result of the collision. Police say Old Ocean City Road was shut down for about two hours. 

Crews from the State Highway Administration, Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Department, and Delmarva Power assisted Maryland State Police with the clean-up and investigation.
