Police Investigate Thefts From Vehicles in Sussex Co.

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.– Delaware State Police are investigating a series of thefts from vehicles at several locations near Millsboro and Long Neck.

Troopers said suspects broke into approximately seven vehicles, as well as a home through an unsecured garage door. The thefts occurred late at night and/or early in the morning between Sept. 5 and Sept. 9 in the Oak Orchard and Mount Joy areas, according to police.

Police are reminding residents to take the following precautions to avoid having items stolen from their vehicles:

  • Lock your car doors and roll up your windows
  • Close and secure your garage doors
  • Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle
  • Leave outdoor lights on in the driveway or have security lighting installed
  • Report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 immediately

Anyone with any information about the incidents is asked to contact Troop 7 in Lewes at 302-644-5020 or Troop 4 in Georgetown at 302-856-5850. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, via www.tipsubmit.com, or by sending an anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword "DSP."
