SALISBURY, Md. - Maryland State Police say a man was killed after he was struck by a car Friday morning on Route 50 in Salisbury.

Police said troopers were dispatched to the intersection of eastbound Route 50 and Booth Street just before 6 a.m. for a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Troopers said 63-year-old Jean Louis LaFleur was walking in the travel portion of the roadway when he was hit by a 1998 Hyundai Elantra, driven by 53-year-old Johnnie Lee Thomas

Police says LeFleur was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The front seat passenger, identified as 87-year-old Mary Thomas, was also taken to PRMC but was discharged shortly after, according to police. They said Johnnie Thomas refused medical treatment at the scene.

No charges have been filed at this time.

Police are continuing to investigate.
