DELMAR, Md.- Authorities say a suspect is in custody following a Friday morning sexual assault in Delmar, Md.

At around 7 a.m. the Delmar Police Department responded to an emergency call for service in the area of the Mason-Dixon Sports Complex on Foskey Lane, according to the Wicomico Bureau of Investigation.

The incident involved an adult male suspect who was taken into custody for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman, said Lt. Tim Robinson of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office.

Tracy Sahler, a spokesperson for Wicomico County Public Schools, said the incident did not occur at nearby Delmar Elementary School. However, she said a school resource officer was brought in to the school as a precautionary measure on Friday morning.

The WBI said in a press release that all involved individuals are known to law enforcement and the investigation is continuing. There is no danger or risk to the public related to this incident, according to the WBI.

The name of the suspect has not yet been released.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the WBI at 410-548-4898 or the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack at 410-749-3101.
