WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Police in Wilmington say extra officers were called in to a shooting scene after a large crowd gathered and some threw rocks and bottles at officers.
Chief Bobby Cummings said after a man was shot in the chest Sunday afternoon, a crowd assembled and several officers were hit by objects. Cummings says the injured man was taken to Christiana Hospital and was in stable condition.
Cummings says New Castle County police officers and state troopers already in the city for the pope's visit to Philadelphia helped with crowd control. He says there were "a couple of arrests," including a man who drew a knife near the police tape. Traffic was cordoned off for blocks around the site Sunday night.
