5 People Rescued in Ocean City After Getting Caught in Rip Current

Posted:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Ocean City officials say five people were rescued from the ocean Monday afternoon after they got caught up in rip currents.

Jessica Waters, with Ocean City, tells WBOC it happened at 33rd street and Philadelphia Avenue around 4:15 p.m. Waters says two children got caught up in a rip current, then the three adults who were with them, tried to go after the children but also got caught up in the surf.

All five people were rescued from the water and transported to local hospitals. Waters tells WBOC there didn't appear to be any life threatening injuries.

Lifeguards are no longer on duty. The Ocean City Beach Patrol has roving patrols, who responded to the rescue. Waters says members from the Ocean City Fire Department also responded.

Stay with WBOC for more details as they become available.
