ELLENDALE, Del. – Delaware State Police troopers are searching for a man who attempted to rob an Ellendale area gas station late Sunday night.

On Wednesday police released surveillance photos of the suspect.

According to police, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a man entered the Country Corners Exxon Market on Beach Highway with a handgun, confronted the 18-year-old male employee, and demanded cash from the register. The clerk refused to hand over any money and then chased the suspect out of the store, where he was last seen running eastbound on Beach Highway, troopers said.

Authorities describe the suspect as white, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9, and approximately 130-170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black mask, and a black T-shirt with a long-sleeve white shirt underneath.

According to police, the suspect should be considered armed with an unknown type of handgun. Anyone with information about this incident or the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact Troop 4 Major Crimes Unit at 302-856-5850. Tips can also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) TIP-3333, online at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com, or by sending an anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword “DSP.”
