Trade Official Visits Delaware on Heels of Landmark Pact

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman is traveling to Delaware in his first public event since negotiating a contentious trade pact involving the United States and 11 other Pacific Rim countries.

U.S. Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons planned to join Froman on Friday to tout the Trans-Pacific Partnership and highlight how trade benefits local and state economies.

The trio planned to visit White Optics, a New Castle small business that is creating jobs by developing, manufacturing and exporting energy efficiency-enabling reflector and diffuser technologies for the commercial lighting industry.

Administration officials say Delaware exported an estimated $5.3 billion worth of goods last year, and that roughly a fifth of Delaware's exports already go to TPP countries.
