SALISBURY, Md.– The Maryland State Highway Administration will hold a public meeting Oct. 21 to discuss significant construction along the Salisbury Bypass.

According to a flyer mailed out to area residents, major bridgework will take place on US 13 from US 13 Business to south of US 50. Six areas have been designated to have rehabilitation work done, including bridges over US 50, Old Ocean City Road and Mt. Hermon Road.

The aim of the public meeting is to familiarize residents with the project details and address the timeline as well as traffic plans.

The SHA said that throughout construction, all traffic will be re-routed to a single side of the dual highway. Once the bridges on one side are complete, traffic will again be re-routed for work to begin on the other side of the highway.

The bridges are structurally safe according to the SHA. However, the agency noted that the bridges are showing signs of wear. The SHA said rehabilitation is necessary in order to reduce further maintenance costs.

Construction is slated to begin the fall of 2016 and, weather depending, could be complete by early 2018.
