DOVER, Del. – Legislative Hall is slated to reopen for staff later this week following a fire Wednesday that caused extensive damage to some parts of the building.

The areas for the Senate, the Controller General's office and the Division of Research will be open Wednesday morning, according to an email sent to Legislative Hall staff by Lori Christiansen, the director of Legislative Council’s Division of Research. Staff for the House was asked to report Thursday.

The email says the building will remain closed to the public until further notice.

The Dover City Fire Marshal’s Office ruled Wednesday’s fire accidental, saying it began when an exhaust pipe in the attic of Legislative Hall caused some nearby items to ignite during a test of the building’s backup generator.
