Lewes Man Charged With Indecent Exposure in Rehoboth Beach

Posted:

LEWES, Del. – A Lewes man has been charged with indecent exposure after police say he exposed himself to a woman in Rehoboth Beach.

Rehoboth Beach Police responded to the area of the Henlopen Hotel Monday at around 11:20 a.m for a late reported complaint. According to officers, a female victim told them at around 7:45 that morning she saw a man, later identified as 61-year-old John Hurd, expose his genitals on the beach in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue.

Police say the victim told them she was walking on the beach when Hurd approached her and struck up a conversation. According to responding officers, the woman said Hurd pulled down his pants as she passed him and began to perform a lewd act on himself.

Officers and the victim were able to identify Hurd due to his prior contact with the department for complaints of suspicious behavior.

Rehoboth Beach Police say they charged Hurd with one count of lewdness and one count of indecent exposure. He was released on $1,500 unsecured bond and ordered not to come within Rehoboth Beach city limits or to have contact with the victim. An initial court appearance is scheduled for November 16.
