Accident Involving Trailer Temporarily Closes Route 24

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - According to Delaware State Police, a utility trailer on a pickup truck became detached and collided with another vehicle on Route 24 Wednesday night.

Police said David H. Bates, 50 of Milford, was driving a pickup truck pulling the small utility trailer eastbound on John J. Williams Highway (SR24) around 7:00 p.m. For unknown reasons, the trailer detached and collided with a car driven by Charles A. Pace, 51 of Millsboro, directly behind the pickup truck.

After Pace struck the trailer, he drove into the westbound lanes where he struck a car being operated by Brian J. Santry, 33 of Millsboro head-on.

Pace and Santry, who police said were both properly restrained, were removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Beebe Healthcare with non-life-threatening injuries.

DSP said Bates was uninjured in the crash and was cited for Unsafe Vehicle, Failure to Have Insurance in Possession and Failure to Have Registration Card in Possession.

Route 24 was temporarily closed in the area of Love Creek Bridge for approximately 45 minutes while the crash was investigated and cleared.
