DOVER, Del. (AP/WBOC)- Fourth grade teacher Sandra Hall has been selected as Delaware's teacher of the year.

Hall, who teaches at North Smyrna Elementary, was chosen to represent the state from a pool of 9,000 educators who were then narrowed down to 19 teachers representing each school district in the state.

During a banquet dinner, Hall said she became interested in education after her experience as a mother of two and as a military spouse, living overseas. Before she was a teacher, Hall said she worked in advertising.

Nominees for the award have to submit a portfolio explaining their teaching philosophy which is then evaluated by five staff members from the Delaware Department of Education. The winner goes on to compete in the national program and will serve as the face for all teachers in the state.
