FELTON, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested a Dover man after troopers say they found drugs and a gun during a traffic stop.

Police say it happened just after 9 p.m. Monday, when officers saw a grey Dodge Avenger fail to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection of Barney Jenkins Road and South DuPont Highway.

Police pulled over the driver, 22-year-old Kevin McDonald Jr. of Dover. Troopers say a state police drug trained K9 and his handler checked the car and detected narcotics.  Based on that, officers searched the car and found a fully loaded .40 caliber handgun underneath the driver’s seat along with over $500 in suspected drug money.

Troopers arrested and searched McDonald, and say he they found 3.5 grams of crack cocaine on him.

McDonald is charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Crack Cocaine), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, two counts of Possession of a Firearm/Ammunition by a Prohibited Defendant of an Alleged Felony, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, and Failure to Signal.  He was arraigned at JP7 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $91,002 cash only bail.

Police say the two counts of Possession of a Firearm/Ammunition by a Prohibited Defendant of an Alleged Felony stem from McDonald's arrest back on September 9, 2015 during the “Operation Spiritus” investigation for Racketeering and Drug Dealing.  The bond in that case was revoked during this arrest and he is now being held without bail for those charges.
