Judge Grants Attorney Withdrawal in O'Donnell FEC Lawsuit

Posted:

DOVER, Del. (AP)- A federal judge is allowing a Delaware attorney representing Christine O'Donnell to withdraw from a lawsuit filed by the Federal Election Commission.

Richard Abbott asked to withdraw from the case because he hasn't been paid for his services.

In granting Abbot's withdrawal Thursday, the judge denied a request by other O'Donnell attorneys to delay the case amid her accusations that Abbott may have been colluding with FEC attorneys against her. Abbott and FEC lawyers reject that allegation.

The lawsuit claims O'Donnell used at least $20,000 in campaign contributions to pay bills at a townhouse that also served as her 2010 Senate campaign headquarters.

O'Donnell, a Republican, claims she did nothing wrong.

Records show O'Donnell has given her campaign committee $15,000 in two unsecured, zero-interest loans this year for legal services.
