Black Women Having Tough Year with policing Issues too

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Black men are not alone when it comes to difficult relations with the police. Black women are having a tough time too.

From the schoolgirl who was slammed to the floor in a South Carolina classroom to the mysterious death of Sandra Bland inside a Texas jail cell, videos showing black women being manhandled by police are bringing their problems to the forefront.

Civil rights groups say closer attention must be paid to what's happening between police and women of color.

Black girls were suspended from school six times as often as their white counterparts, studies show, and black females are between 1.6 and 4.1 times more likely to be imprisoned than white females.

The Black Lives Matter organization is pushing for a Democratic debate focused solely on policing issues.
