DOVER, Del. -  The trial of a former Caesar Rodney High School teacher and wrestling coach who was charged in connection with an alleged sexual relationship with a female student, was pushed back until January of 2016, according to the Delaware Department of Justice.

The trial for 51-year-old Richard "Dickie" Howell II, of Wyoming, Delaware, is scheduled to start on January 19th, officials said Monday. His trial was originally supposed to start Monday in Kent County Superior Court, but it was continued.

Howell pleaded "not guilty" back in April to having sex with a 17-year-old girl. He was arrested on Jan. 14 and the date of alleged offense was listed as March 1, 2014, in court papers. He is charged with sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust, as well as sexual solicitation of a child under 18.

Caesar Rodney School District spokesperson Ron Gough said Howell was suspended without pay on Jan. 15. He submitted a letter of resignation to the district on April 9. The Caesar Rodney School Board officially accepted his letter of resignation on April 21, Gough said.
