DOVER, Del. - Delaware State Police say a Dover man who drove past a flagman during construction then hit another car head-on last month, has died from his injuries.

Troopers say George E. Courtney, Jr. 86, was initially removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Bayheatlh Kent General Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. Police said Friday that he remained at the hospital until he died on November 1.

Troopers say the crash happened on October 21 as Courtney drove past a flagman positioned on the north end of New Burton Road just south of Webbs Lane and drove onto the grassy shoulder, disregarding the stop sign.

Police say Courtney then pulled back into the southbound lane, crossed into the northbound lane and accelerated, hitting another car head on.

The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is still investigating this crash.
