DOVER, De. (AP) - Delaware hunters are gearing up for the start of shotgun deer hunting season.

The eight-day shotgun season starts next Friday and runs through Nov. 21. State environmental officials say it's by far the most popular of Delaware's deer-hunting opportunities.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control anticipates that Delaware hunters will kill 14,000 deer this year, with nearly half of them taken during the November shotgun season.

Hunters who already have enough venison for themselves are encouraged to donate their deer to the Delaware Sportsmen Against Hunger program. There are state-maintained coolers and private butcher shops in all three counties where hunters can drop off deer.
