Updated: Firefighters Battle Overnight Blaze at Abandoned Store Building

MELFA, Va.- Fire crews battled an overnight fire at an abandoned store building in Accomack County. 

Officials with the Wachapreague Volunteer Fire Company said the fire at the old Priscilla Mears store on Piggin Road at Seaside Road started broke out at around 11 p.m. Monday.

Officials said it took firefighters just over two hours to put out the blaze.

Firefighters said no one was injured in the fire, but said the abandoned building is a total loss.

According to officials, multiple stations from Accomack and Northampton counties responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
