CAMBRIDGE, Md.- Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police on Tuesday night suspended their search in the Cambridge area for a missing boater from Easton.

DNR Spokesperson Candy Thompson identified the missing boater as 63-year-old Ingvard Aasvik of Easton. Thompson said Aasvik's family has been notified.

Thompson said that at around 7:30 p.m. Monday, a 27-foot cabin cruiser with its navigation lights on ran aground off of Riverpoint Road.

Neighbors Jerry and Karen Ballinghoff were shocked to see the empty boat floating in the water just behind their home.

"It was about 5 o'clock and my wife says there's a boat out back. And we look and there's the boat up against the dock and not looking like a sailor had docked it or anything. It was all kind of weird," Jerry Ballinghoff said.

Thompson said crews searched for hours for the missing boater Monday night into early Tuesday morning and the search was picked up again Tuesday at 6 a.m.  The search was called off Tuesday night due to darkness and poor weather and will be resumed again on Wednesday.

Thompson said crews are searching the area between La Trappe Creek, Todd Point and the mouth of the Choptank.

Neighbors are praying for the best for the missing boater.

"Anytime people's lives are involved it's weird and a little scary," said Ballinghoff.  "Makes you realize that the water is beautiful living on it, but occasionally things go awry."
