MILLSBORO, Del.- Delaware State Police say a Georgetown man is in critical condition after he was struck by a pickup truck near Millsboro on Thursday night.

Police said the incident happened at around 6 p.m. as 58-year-old Royce W. Beauchamp of Princess Anne, Md., was driving a 1999 Ford F150 pickup truck westbound on Millsboro Highway (SR24) just east of Mumford Road. Troopers said that meantime, 18-year-old Ethan A. Cabrera of Georgetown had gotten out of a car n which he was a passenger and crossed the road from south to north to a home. Police said that upon returning to the car, Cabrera began crossing SR24 from north to south and stepped into the path of the westbound pickup. Police said the pickup struck Cabrera with the left front driver’s side, vaulting him into the eastbound lanes.

The pickup was able to come to a controlled stop on the shoulder after the collision, according to police.

Cabrera was removed from the scene by Life Net and flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., where he is listed in critical condition.

Troopers said Beauchamp was properly restrained and was uninjured in the crash.

SR24 between Godwin School and Mumford roads was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
