Salisbury Man Injured While Running From Police

SALISBURY, Md. – An armed Salisbury man was injured Tuesday after police say he ran into the path of a police car while officers were attempting to talk to him.

According to Maryland State Police, investigators were working a criminal enforcement initiative on the west side of Salisbury when police saw a man cutting through several back yards near Germania Circle and West Main Street. Police say when the man saw investigators, he began to run away, holding his waistband, which led investigators to believe he had a gun.

Police later identified him as 20-year-old Kevin Garcia.

During the chase, police say Garcia ran into the street and into the path of a responding undercover police car. Before taking him to PRMC for treatment of minor injuries, police found a loaded .22 caliber handgun in Garcia’s waistband.

Upon his release from the hospital, Garcia was charged with firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a firearm by a minor, wearing/carrying a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition by a prohibited person.

Police say Garcia was the only person injured in the incident.
