BRIDGEVILLE, Del.– Delaware State Police are investigating an early Friday morning car crash that left one woman dead and another woman injured east of Bridgeville.

Troopers said the incident occurred shortly after midnight as 45-year-old Susan Patten-Lorenzo of Seaford was driving a 2007 Ford Mustang eastbound on Redden Road and approaching a moderate left curve just west of the intersection with Chaplin’s Chapel Road. Police said that for reasons still unknown, Patten-Lorenzo lost control of the Mustang and crossed the westbound lane and went off the north side of the road as it rotated in a counter-clockwise manner. Police said the car then continued to slide in a northeasterly direction and struck a utility pole with its right rear.  The impact caused the Mustang to rotate violently in a clockwise direction and overturn, according to investigators.

Police said 43-year-old Sandra L. Wroten of Seaford was ejected from the right front passenger's seat before the car came to a stop on the roof. Troopers said Wroten, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patten-Lorenzo was properly restrained and transported by EMS to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released, according to investigators.

Troopers said that while the investigation into the crash continues, alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor and charges are pending.

Redden Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
