SALISBURY, Md. - A Berlin man was arrested twice in one day for driving while under the influence of drugs.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office said Monday, that 20-year-old Joshua Carey, of Berlin, Maryland, was arrested around 2 p.m. Friday for driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance that impaired his ability to operate a vehicle. Deputies made the arrest after Carey hit a wooden flower box in front of Sherwood Ford on N. Salisbury Blvd. Carey was arrested and transported to the Sheriff's Office for further investigation into the impairment by a Drug Recognition Expert who concluded that Carey was under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, deputies said, although they didn't elaborate what kind of drug he was on.

Carey then refused to submit to a blood draw when it was requested, deputies said. He was issued a citation and released. Deputies said someone came to pick him at the station.

A few hours later, at about 5:30 p.m., the same deputy saw Carey driving on N. Salisbury Boulevard, the sheriff's office said, and stopped him in the area of Gordy Road.

Carey was arrested and charged a second time with driving while impaired by a controlled dangerous substance, according to the sheriff's office.

Carey was ordered to be held in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Crabbing season is well underway, and that means hundreds of thousands of crab pots are in the Chesapeake Bay catching blue crabs. However, many of those pots can quickly become "ghost" pots, sinking to the bottom of the bay and taking millions of crabs with them. These ghost pots have been a problem in the bay for decades, diminishing the crab population, and potentially costing watermen millions of dollars.

Crabbing season is well underway, and that means hundreds of thousands of crab pots are in the Chesapeake Bay catching blue crabs.

Every morning during crabbing season, you can see watermen gathering up their pots, collecting their catch, and putting the pots back in the water. What you cannot see is the problem: pots that have had their lines severed sit on the bay's bottom, sometimes never seen again, along with the crabs inside them.
