MILFORD, Del.- The Delaware State Police is investigating a serious crash involving a bicyclist.

Police responded to Coastal Highway (SR 1) and Argos Corner Road just after 5 p.m.  Saturday for a report of a bicyclist struck in the roadway.

Troopers say Joseph Bergman, 48 of Milford, was on his bicycle in the northbound lanes of Coastal Highway when he was struck by an unknown dark colored or grey passenger vehicle that fled the scene.

Police say after the initial collision a second car, driven by 46-year-old Theodore Campbell, swerved to miss the bicyclist lying in the road and hit the bicycle. The impact with the bicycle caused minor damage to the front right side of the vehicle.

According to police, Bergman was wearing a fluorescent yellow jacket at the time of the collision. He was transported to Christiana Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was released. Police say alcohol appears to be a factor on the part of the bicyclist.

Campbell was properly restrained was not injured as result of the collision.

Coastal Highway and Argos Corner Road was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. No charges have been filed at this time.

Troopers are continuing their investigation into this crash.  If anyone has any information in reference to this incident, they are asked to contact Corporal J. Harmon at 302-644-5020.
