MILLSBORO, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating after a driver fled away from a trooper near Millsboro and crashed into a second car.

Police said that shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday, a trooper observed a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera run a stop sign on Rt. 24 at Layton David Road. According to police, the trooper believed the driver was impaired after watching the car drive erratically.

Police said the trooper tried to pull over the car, but the driver continued to flee.

Police said the driver, later identified as 32-year-old Keiyanda Hopkins, of Millsboro, continued to drive recklessly on Streets Road, Cordrey Road, Maryland Camp Road, Townsend Road, Mount Joy Road and then right onto Lawson Road.

Troopers said Hopkins was driving at a high rate of speed when she failed to stop at another stop sign while approaching Hollyville Road.

Police said Hopkins then drove into the path of a 2012 Mazda MZ3, driven by 26-year-old Matthew Revel, of Millsboro.

Troopers said Revel tried to swerve to avoid Hopkins, but collided with Hopkins' vehicle.

Both vehicles were forced in a northwest direction and stopped south of the intersection in the road, police said.

Hopkins was initially transported to Beebe Hospital then later to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center with what police said are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers said Revel was transported to Beebe Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, where he was treated and released.

Police said warrants are on file for Hopkins charging her with disregarding a police officer signal, second-degree vehicular assault, driving under the influence of drugs, three counts of resisting arrest, driving while suspended/revoked, failure to remain stopped, two counts of failure to remain in travel lane, failure to stop at a stop sign and driving at unsafe speeds.

Troopers said she will be formally charged and arraigned when she is medically cleared and released from the hospital.

The intersection of Lawson and Hollyville roads was closed for two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
