REHOBOTH, Del. – Delaware State Police have arrested a Lewes woman in connection with an early-morning robbery at a hotel in Rehoboth Beach.

According to police, the incident happened at around 4:15 a.m. at the Econo Lodge at 19540 Coastal Highway. Police said a woman approached a 55-year-old male employee at the desk implied that she had a gun and demanded cash from the register. The male clerk told the woman that there was no money and walked into an office, locked the door behind him, and called 9-1-1, police said.

The woman threatened to shoot the clerk through the door if he didn’t unlock it, and proceeded to open several drawers and take more than $400 in petty cash before the first trooper arrived, police said. Investigators said the trooper entered the lobby of the hotel and told the woman she was under arrest for the robbery, but she did not comply with his demands.

Police said after a brief struggle, Michelle L. Bloothoofd, 42, of Lewes, was taken into custody.

Bloothoofd was taken to Troop 7 in Lewes where she was charged with first-degree robbery, resisting arrest, terroristic threatening, and failure to comply with taking of photo and fingerprints.  She was arraigned at JP2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $28,000 secured bond.
