BERLIN, Md.- A New Jersey man is charged with DUI after state police say the man led troopers on a chase before crashing.

Maryland State Police said they received a call about an intoxicated driver in the area of Rt. 50 and Rt. 589 Monday, Dec. 7 just after 2 p.m.

According to state police, troopers responded to the area, located the suspected vehicle and tried to pull the driver over.

Troopers said after the vehicle failed to stop, a high speed pursuit began. State police said the chase exceeded speeds of 100 m.p.h.

State police said deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff's Office aided in the pursuit by putting down stop sticks.

Troopers said the vehicle hit the stop sticks and crashed shortly after.

According to troopers, the suspect was taken into custody and three people were taken to the hospital with injuries.

State police said the pursuit continued for 9 miles, lasting about 6 minutes.

Troopers said the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Dale Elderidge, Jr. of Woodstown, NJ, was charged with DUI and related traffic offenses.

State police said Elderidge was later taken to the Worcester County District Court Commissioner in Snow Hill.

Troopers said he was held on $5,000 bond.
