Police ID Man Shot, Killed by Clerk During Liquor Robbery

Posted:

TOWSON, Md. (AP)- Baltimore County police are identifying a Baltimore man they say was shot to death by a clerk while trying to rob a Towson liquor store.

Police identified the man Tuesday as 25-year-old Claude Mayo.

Police say Mayo and another man entered Towson Wine & Spirits on Monday night, displayed handguns and announced a robbery. When Mayo aimed his gun at the 68-year-old clerk's head, police say the clerk pulled a gun from behind the counter and shot Mayo multiple times in the upper body.

Police say both would-be robbers ran off, but Mayo collapsed nearby and died. The second man kept running and police are still looking for him.

Neither of the two store employees was injured.
