SEAFORD, Del. – Troopers with the Delaware State Police Sussex County Drug Task Force has arrested three people after a six-month long investigation into illegal drug sales in Seaford.

According to police, at about 5:15 p.m. Monday, the Sussex County Drug Task Force, the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force and the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team carried out a search warrant at a home in the 2300 block of East Middlecord Circle. Officers arrested Deshan L. Ross, 33, and Shamona Sample, 29. During the search, police said troopers discovered 168.4 grams of cocaine, 26.11 grams of heroin, 343 grams of methamphetamine and 3 grams of marijuana.

Just before the search warrant on East Middlecord Circle, police pulled over a car that had just left the home. Police said Mark J. Taylor, 39, of Laurel was driving a Volkswagen Passat and was one of the suspects in the ongoing investigation. Troopers said during the stop, Taylor ran from the car, and began swallowing individually wrapped bags of cocaine.

When police caught up to Taylor, police said he began choking on the bags and spit one out onto the ground. A trooper medic from the Special Operations Response Team gave Taylor first aid and removed two more bags from his throat, police said. Authorities said Taylor began spitting in the trooper’s face before he was taken to a local hospital, where he was admitted because another bag was lodged in his bronchial tube.

Police said a search of the Passat turned up more than $27,500 in suspected drug proceeds. Taylor was charged with three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 5 Quantity, three counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 4 Quantity, Assault 2nd on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace Court Judge at the hospital and was placed in the custody of Delaware Department of Corrections in lieu of $374,200.00 cash bond.

Deshan Ross and Shamona Sample were taken to Troop 4 where they were charged with the following offenses:

Ross:

- Three Counts of possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 5 Quantity

- Three Counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 4 Quantity

-Conspiracy 2nd

-Three counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 4 Quantity
