DOVER, Del. (AP)- The Delaware Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from a former Smyrna High School math teacher accused of sexually abusing a female student.

Donovan Garvin was indicted in 2013 on 45 counts of sexual solicitation of a child, possession of child pornography, and sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust. He pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a child under 16 by a person of trust and was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Prosecutors said Garvin had been dismissed by other school districts for allegations of inappropriate sexual contact with students.

On appeal, Garvin challenged a lower court ruling rejecting his claims for post-conviction relief and ineffective assistance of counsel.

The Supreme Court ruled this week that Garvin's appeal was without merit.
