DOVER, Del.- Police are warning the public following a series of thefts that happened as a result of internet sales meetings in Dover.

According to the Dover Police Department, officers are investigating at least three reports in which victims met potential buyers from the online classified sales website, Craigslist.

In those three cases, police said the victims were trying to sell small electronic devices.

Police said when the suspect in each case would ask to inspect the device while meeting in the parking lot of a shopping center, they ran away with the device each time.

According to police, no one was injured during the three altercations.

The Dover Police Department is encouraging anyone selling or buying items during these types of meetings to meet in the parking lot of the police department, or in front of the police department on Bank Lane.

Dover police said buyers and sellers may also meet at the porch area of the front entrance to the department, but must not block anyone entering or leaving the department.

The Dover Police Department is also sharing the following tips with the public who wish to meet with buyers and sellers and do not choose to meet at the department:

-Insist on a public meeting place like a cafe, shopping center parking lot, etc.

-Do not meet in a secluded place, or invite strangers into your home.

-Be especially careful buying/selling high value items.

-Consider making high-value exchanges at your local police station.

-Tell a friend or family member where you're going or when you're having a buyer/seller in your home.

-Take your cell phone along if you have one.

-Consider having a friend accompany you.
