Woman Dies After Ellendale Crash

Posted: Updated:

ELLENDALE, Del. – Delaware State Police says a woman has died from injuries she suffered during an accident on Wednesday.

Investigators say the accident happened around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday December 9.

Troopers say Cora L. Lofland, 62 of Ellendale, was operating a 1993 Mercury Villager westbound on Fleatown Road approaching the intersection of North Old State Road. Angel Gabriel Marquez Torres, 39 of Harrington, was operating a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse northbound on North Old State Road approaching the intersection with Fleatown Road.

Trooper say Lofland failed to come to a complete stop at the posted stop sign on Fleatown Road and pulled directly into the path of the Eclipse. The Eclipse then struck the Villager on the driver's side within the intersection.  Both vehicles continued in a northwesterly direction before the Villager came to a stop after striking a pole.  The Eclipse came to a stop in the grass on the northwest side of the intersection.

Investigators say Lofland was taken to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital where she was admitted in serious condition. They say she succumbed to her injuries and died on Friday

Angel Gabriel Marquez Torres was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol is not a factor in this case and no charges will be forthcoming.  North Old State Road at Fleatown Road was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
