MILLSBORO, Del.- Delaware State Police detectives have arrested a 32-year-old Magnolia man in connection with multiple home improvement fraud cases in the Millsboro area.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed the incidents began in April when Brett Johnson, working under Johnson's Custom Carpentry, was hired by several people to complete jobs at their homes.

Police said a verbal proposal was given to each victim, who then provided Johnson with deposits totaling more than $9,600.

According to police, none of the work has been started and Johnson failed to return the victim's money even following several requests.

Authorities said that between April and June, Johnson was hired by five local residents.

Police said that during that time, he made contact with his victims and arranged to perform other side jobs for them.

Johnson would then take the victim's money for a downpayment, but never returned to complete the jobs, investigators said.

As a result of the investigation, Johnson was arrested and arraigned on five counts of home improvement fraud-receive money for services not completed and five counts of theft by false pretenses.

He was released on $5,000 unsecured bond.

Homeowners who have had contact with this company and the work was not completed by Johnson are asked to contact Detective T. Shockley at (302) 752-3812.
