PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Maryland Attorney General’s Office says it is investigating issues related to student ID cards at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne.

A source tells WBOC that people managed to add fake money onto the school cards, then redeemed that fake money and spent it as real cash. Neither the AG’s office, nor UMES would confirm the details surrounding the potentially criminal activity. How many people were involved and how much money may have been redeemed is unclear as the investigation is ongoing.

When asked to provide more information, UMES issued a two-line statement saying:

The University has referred the matter to state authorities for investigation and as such, the university is not able to comment further."

At this time it is unclear if anyone has been arrested or if anyone has been charged.
