MILFORD, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly crash that left one woman dead.

Police say it happened just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Canterbury Road and Rothermel Road.

According to police, Julianna Melia, 70 of Felton, was driving westbound on Rothermel Road, and continued through a stop sign at the intersection and into the path of a tractor-trailer.

Police say 49-year-old Jeffery Dawson was driving the tractor-trailer, and swerved left and struck the driver's side of Melia's car. After impact, police say the two traveled in tandem northbound through the wet grass and stopped west of the roadway.

Melia, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dawson was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Milford Memorial Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

Canterbury Road in the area of Rothermel Road was for closed approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
