CRISFIELD, Md.- Trash collection in Crisfield has growing concerns among neighbors. Complaints range from garbage being left behind, animals being attracted to the residential areas and the trash being pulled all over the place. Mayor Kim Lawson said the city is working to resolve the issues.

Monday and Tuesday are the designated days for residential trash pickup in Crisfield. Lawson said the city's sole garbage truck is very old and needs to be replaced. The mayor said the cost to replace the truck would be $200,000; funds the city does not have at this time.

Lawson said the city is looking into the option of privatizing its garbage collection.

"Council has taken a look at what it would take to privatize the service. So we had a work session in the early part of December of which this subject was touched upon and that there is still a select committee of our council that is working on a total evaluation of the cost," Lawson said.

According to  Lawson and given council's approval, privatizing the city's garbage collection could take effect as soon as January.
