SMYRNA, Del.- Delaware Department of Correction officials have announced the deaths of two inmates at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center.

Paul Wells, 57, died in the prison infirmary Tuesday morning of natural causes following a terminal illness, officials said. Wells, of Dover, Del., was serving a life sentence for rape.  His sentence effective date was April 29, 1982.

Officials said that in an unrelated case, an elderly inmate died in the prison infirmary Tuesday morning of natural causes following a terminal illness. The inmate was serving a life sentence following a conviction in the state of Minnesota and was in the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction through an interstate compact agreement with the Minnesota.

Arrangements are being made to turn over both inmates' bodies to the State Division of Forensic Science, as is standard procedure.
