Physical Therapy Practice Agrees to $710K Settlement With US

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - The U.S. Attorney's Office says an outpatient physical therapy practice has reached a $710,000 settlement to resolve claims that it billed Medicare for services performed without required supervision.

Old Towne Physical Therapy LP, which owns three clinics in Delaware, reached the settlement with the U.S. to resolve allegations of health care fraud under the False Claims Act, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney.

According to federal officials, Old Towne submitted claims to Medicare for physical therapy services performed at its clinics by physical therapists and physical therapist assistants without adequate supervision by a Medicare-enrolled physical therapist, as required.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says Old Towne and its parent company, U.S. Physical Therapy Inc., entered into an agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services.
