LINTHICUM, Md. - Maryland State Police are investigating a bus accident that claimed the life of a Queen Anne's County woman Sunday morning in Anne Arundel County.

State Police say 65-year-old Miriam Barnshaw of Centreville is dead and her son, 40-year-old Brian Barnshaw, is injured after their car was hit by a commuter bus around 8:30 a.m. near Linthicum.

According to troopers, preliminary investigation shows the son was driving, entering 295 northbound from 695 westbound when for unknown reasons he lost control of the car and skidded perpendicular into the northbound lanes. Police say the car was then hit by a commuter bus traveling in the fast lane.

State troopers say none of the 18 passengers on board the bus were injured. However, Miriam Barnshaw, the only passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Police say her son was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with undetermined injuries.

As the Maryland State Police CRASH Team continues its investigation, motorists who may have witnessed the crash are asked to contact police. Witnesses can call state police at the Glen Burnie Barrack at 410-761-5130.
